TIPS FOR EV MAINTENANCE DURING THE WINTER SEASON

At Dueck Chevrolet Buick Cadillac GMC, we want drivers to get the most out of driving their EVs this winter, so we are sharing some of our best tips for maintaining your EV this winter season.

PROPER CHARGING

While EVs will have a lower range in the colder months due in part to the battery relying on the heating system to keep you warm. But by turning the heat on for 15-30 minutes when your car is plugged into your home charger or using a public fast charger after your battery has had time to warm up, you can improve your EV range in the winter months.

ADAPT YOUR DRIVING

The slower you accelerate and maintain your speed, the less battery energy will be used. Consider using Eco Mode for an even better range since Eco Mode will reduce the energy supply to the engine and HVAC system.

CHECK AND CHANGE YOUR FLUIDS

While an EV doesn’t require an oil change, as a gas-powered engine does, it is a good idea to routinely inspect your coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washing fluids and replace or replenish them as required.

WINTER TIRES

Our best advice for winter tires is to invest in a good set of winter-rated tires. Their rubber compound is designed to maintain its elasticity in temperatures lower than seven degrees, providing improved braking and traction on cold, wet roads. As your one-stop-winter-tire shop, let us help you find the perfect winter tires for your vehicle and driving style.
